WORLD TUBERCULOSIS (TB) DAY- Natural Science Subject Association
In a heartfelt effort to promote public health awareness, the Department of Natural Science at Sri Vidyadhiraja Model College of Teacher Education, Vendar, organized a thoughtful and impactful program in observance of World Tuberculosis Day on 28th March 2025 at the college Seminar Hall. Although World TB Day is officially observed on March 24th each year, the program was held on March 28th to mark the occasion with a well-prepared and meaningful presentation. The event focused on raising awareness about tuberculosis (TB)—a potentially serious infectious disease that continues to be a significant global health concern. Designed to educate and inspire, the program highlighted the causes, symptoms, treatment options, and most importantly, the preventive strategies associated with TB. The session commenced with an enlightening speech by Neha, who emphasized the importance of early detection, adherence to prescribed medication, and the critical role of community support in the fight against TB. She reminded the audience that TB is both preventable and curable when approached with proper awareness and timely medical intervention.
One of the most engaging parts of the program was a skit titled "Kannil Kanatha Shathru" (The Invisible Enemy), performed by the students of the department. This emotionally resonant performance depicted the journey of a TB patient—highlighting the onset of symptoms, the burden of social stigma, the process of treatment under the DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course) program, and eventual recovery. The skit brought attention not only to the physical aspects of the disease but also to the emotional struggles patients endure, underscoring the significance of mental health and a supportive environment in the healing process. Following the skit, a well-curated video presentation was screened, offering detailed insights into TB symptoms such as persistent cough, weight loss, night sweats, and fever, along with the science behind the disease, its mode of transmission, and the available medical interventions including antibiotics and vaccines. The presentation also shed light on global and national TB control strategies and emphasized the importance of public cooperation in eliminating TB.
The program concluded with the powerful theme: “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver”—a call to action urging all attendees to be proactive in health awareness and education. Through this impactful initiative, the Department of Natural Science not only fostered scientific understanding but also reinforced its commitment to social responsibility, playing its part in the global mission to end tuberculosis.
