PLASTIC FREE CAMPAIGN
On January 9, the NSS Unit of Sri Vidyadhiraja Model College of Teacher Education (SVMCTE), Vendar, Kottarakkara, organized a dynamic and impactful Plastic Free Campaign aimed at spreading awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and promoting sustainable waste management practices in the local community.
The campaign commenced at 2:30 PM from the college premises. The enthusiastic NSS volunteers gathered with colorful placards carrying slogans such as “Say No to Plastic,” “Choose Reusable,” and “Let’s Save Our Earth.” The event began with a rally, in which students marched from the college through the main roads of Vendar, energetically raising slogans to capture public attention.
As part of the campaign, a flash mob was performed mid-way through the rally. This vibrant and eye-catching performance drew a crowd and successfully communicated the message of plastic-free living in a creative and entertaining manner.
The rally culminated at the Vendar Bus Stop, a strategic location with high public visibility. From there, the students split into smaller groups and visited various shops and local establishments. They conducted short interviews with shop owners, inquiring about how they manage their organic and plastic waste. These interactions helped both parties reflect on current waste practices and encouraged shopkeepers to adopt more sustainable methods.
An additional highlight of the campaign was the collection of plastic waste from within the college campus. The collected waste was handed over to the Haritha Karma Sena, an official group under the local panchayat responsible for scientific waste management. This step emphasized the importance of not only spreading awareness but also taking direct action.
The event was a successful blend of awareness, action, and community involvement, showcasing the commitment of SVMCTE’s NSS volunteers to environmental sustainability. The campaign concluded with the powerful message:
