FREE EYE CHECK - UP CAMP👁️
On Sunday, 16th March 2025, Sree Vidyadhiraja Model College of Teacher Education (SVMCTE), Vendar, in association with the Kottarakkara Lions Club, organized a Free Eye Check-up and Medical Camp. The event was held in the Seminar Hall and was supported by the reputed Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli. The camp was officially inaugurated by Mr. Saji Kadukkala (President, Kulakkada Grama Panchayat), who delivered an impactful speech highlighting the importance of community health initiatives.
The programme began with a prayer by the college choir, setting a serene and respectful tone for the day. Following the inauguration ceremony, speeches were delivered by Dr. Lalamani P. (Principal of SVMCTE and General Convener of the event), Mrs. Hima Raveendran (NSS Programme Officer and Camp Coordinator), and Mr. Goutham Krishna (Manager of SVMCTE). The event also featured inspiring addresses by members of the Lions Club and other college dignitaries, emphasizing the importance of service and student involvement in community welfare.
The camp commenced at 8:00 AM, with NSS volunteers arriving as early as 7:30 AM to diligently prepare the venue and assist with organizing the flow of attendees. A professional medical team comprising doctors, nurses, and support staff from Aravind Eye Hospital conducted comprehensive eye examinations for the public. Each patient received personalized attention and was prescribed appropriate treatment. Eye drops were distributed on-site, and spectacles were provided to those in need.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response from the local community, with many individuals availing themselves of the free services. The Lions Club ensured the comfort of attendees by providing refreshments, including food and water, throughout the day. The seamless coordination between students, faculty, the Lions Club, and medical professionals made the camp a grand success, leaving a lasting impact on all who participated
