FILM FESTIVAL CLASSES 🎬📸
The Film Festival Classes held on January 31, 2025, at Sri Vidyadhiraja B.Ed College,Vendar,as part of the Kottarakkara Short Film Festival, was a celebration of cinematic knowledge and artistic engagement. The event began with a formal inauguration by Adv. K. Anilkumar Ambalakkara,a respected film critic and member of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, who eloquently spoke about the relevance of film as a cultural and educational tool. The program was inaugurated by Sri S R Ramesh (municipal chairman, kottarakkara) ,followed by warm greetings and felicitations from several dignitaries, including Prof. Pallisseri (Festival Director), Sri Muraleedharan Pillai (retired officer and social activist), Sri. Goutham Krishna (Manager of Srividyadhiraja Group of Institutions), and Dr. P. Lalamani (Principal of SVMCTE ).
The first session, titled "Ithivritha parinamam malayala cinemayil "was led by the renowned film critic and historian Sri Vijayakrishnan. His talk traced the evolution of narrative styles in Malayalam cinema, beginning from the foundational years with films like Balan and Neelakkuyil, and moving through the golden era shaped by auteurs such as Adoor Gopalakrishnan, G. Aravindan, and Padmarajan. He highlighted how Malayalam cinema transformed from simplistic storytelling to layered narratives that deeply engage with Kerala’s social and political fabric. His presentation, rich with examples and historical context, offered participants a deeper understanding of how cinema mirrors societal change.
The second session, "Cinemayude Vyakaranam",was conducted by Sri Ranjilal Damodaran, a respected film educator and critic. This session delved into the visual and technical grammar of cinema—covering elements such as framing, lighting, editing, and sound design. Ranjilal explained how these tools shape the language of film and influence how stories are perceived by the audience. He skillfully connected global cinematic principles with Malayalam film examples, offering a balanced perspective on both aesthetics and technique. His interactive approach and clarity of explanation made the complex subject of film grammar both accessible and engaging.
As the sessions concluded, the atmosphere turned soulful when Arya, one of our dear friends and a talented performer, took the stage and recited a beautiful poem. Her words, filled with emotion and creativity, brought a graceful close to an intellectually stimulating day. Her performance reminded everyone of the poetic heart of cinema—the ability to move, inspire, and reflect the human experience. The applause that followed was heartfelt and lingering, capturing the collective spirit of a day devoted to learning and art.
