CAREER GUIDANCE & SKILL ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMME

On March 14, 2025, our college conducted a Career Guidance and Skill Development Program at 10:00 AM in the seminar hall. The session was led by Ms. Unnimaya, a Psychology Trainer from the Career Development Centre, Kottarakara. The program aimed to help B.Ed students understand the importance of career guidance and skill development for both their own careers and their future students.

Principal Dr. Lalamani P. inaugurated the event, highlighting how career guidance shapes future success. She emphasized the need for informed choices and early guidance to help students explore opportunities. The session was smoothly coordinated by NSS Programme Coordinator Ms. Hima Raveendran.

Ms. Unnimaya began by introducing the concept of career guidance and explained various government initiatives supporting students' career decisions. She stressed the importance of skill development and led several interactive activities to build leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

The first task required teams to build the tallest tower using five cards. Group 3 won, and teams then discussed the skills they used, with the team listing the most diverse skills receiving an extra round. This activity promoted creativity, strategy, and collaboration.

In the next task, each group member was assigned a number. The number called out by the resource person determined who would deliver a speech as a politician, addressing fellow group members who also acted as politicians. This improved public speaking, confidence, and persuasion. Students were then asked to arrange themselves by height and birthdate, enhancing their organization and quick thinking.

The straw and bottle task challenged students to transfer straws into a bottle within a time limit. Group 2 excelled, showing focus, coordination, and time management.

Toward the end, an observation activity was introduced. Students had to find and photograph items like a flower, three black objects, two mismatched footwear, and three blue outfits, encouraging alertness and teamwork. They also arranged themselves by age, building further coordination skills.

Ms. Unnimaya concluded by connecting each activity to essential life skills such as decision-making, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving—crucial for educators and students alike.

Principal Dr. Lalamani P. thanked Ms. Unnimaya for the engaging session and led the audience in the NSS clap to close the program.

The session provided valuable theoretical and practical learning. It was both enjoyable and impactful, equipping B.Ed students with essential skills for their future roles as educators.
